A Little About us

Bonjour and thank you for stopping by.  I'm Claudia Strasser,  owner and founder of The Paris Apartment. We're happy to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the book! Many of you have been loyal friends and clients over the years and we all sure have come a long way since the boutique first opened in New York's East Village in 1993. Some know well how the store was a stark contrast to the grungy neighborhood where French boudoir furniture, antiques and flea market finds spilled onto the sidewalk. It was there I learned to repair and even restore the treasures often cast aside at flea markets and discovered the joy of working with my hands AND my head.  Best of all, I discovered a passion for history and the magic in what can be discovered both archaeologically and anthropologically at flea markets all over the world. The store inspired a book in its first year and 'The Paris Apartment, Romantic Decor on a Flea Market Budget' was published in 1997. It's is a somewhat ironic guide to creating your own unique world in any four walls based on your travels, passions and personal style. We believe everyone can have the home of their dreams no matter where or what size.

'Paris Flea Market Style' is a guide and photo book including tips and pics of my favorite flea markets in Paris.

Our app, 'Keys to the Fleas, Paris' helps visitors navigate the ins and outs of the city's complex flea markets.

Over the years we've been growing in various ways. We're working to create a sustainable community and hope to use this website to develop that model with friends, business associates and clients. You'll notice some of the links on our boutique will go to Etsy or Amazon. We've partnered with these companies to support and promote small businesses who represent our ethic and aesthetic. Our aim has always been to offer products that will become heirlooms and create rooms that reflect an individual's style.
